We spent fourteen days in Morocco shooting a Land Rover commercial — the kind of job that reminds you why you got into this. Vast deserts, rugged mountains, hidden waterfalls; dust, wind, heat, and pure filmmaking joy. Every location pushed us creatively and technically.
Our aerial DP Marcus Möller ran camera with pilot Jorge Mix, flying the Freefly Alta X with the ARRI Alexa Mini LF — and the DJI Inspire 2 where the spaces got tight.
Two drones, two jobs
The Alta X did the heavy lifting — literally. Carrying the ARRI Alexa Mini LF, it delivered the big, stable, cinematic moves across the desert and mountains that match the ground unit frame for frame. When a shot called for weight and image quality, that was the rig.
For the tight, technical work — filming climbers suspended on a cliff face, with challenging angles and rugged terrain closing in — we switched to the nimble DJI Inspire 2, flying with precision where the Alta X couldn't fit. It takes the right tool, and a team that can read the location, to make the impossible shot look easy.
Filming in 55°C
The Moroccan desert reached 55°C. Heat and sand push both crew and gear to their limits — batteries drain faster, everything needs protecting, and endurance becomes part of the job. Getting the shot in those conditions is as much about preparation and teamwork as it is about flying.
That's what a two-week location shoot really tests: not just whether you can nail a move, but whether you can nail it on day fourteen, in the heat, with the footage still cutting together cleanly from the first frame to the last.
